Roland Barthes.

Roland Barthes was a French literary theorist, who's concept on 'mythologies' heavily influences many forms of media today. The theory of mythologies is the idea that in media, whether this be books, television programs, newspapers etc, things which are associated with each other will be shown through a form of media to fulfil the audiences expectations.

Barthes' theory of mythologies is mainly shown through stereotypes, as it is an easy way to group things associated with each other together, for example, teenagers being associated with anti-social behaviour, or British people being associated with crumpets and tea.
